Volkswagen ID.7 electric saloon with 600km range goes on sale

Pre-sales of the first Volkswagen ID.7 electric saloon to be launched have opened in Europe, with customers now able to order the Pro, boasting a range of up to 621 kilometres at a price of €56,995.

While it remains an unknown whether the Volkswagen ID.7 will make it to Australia – with estimates of a launch in 2025 at the earliest – Europe is now able to order the ID.7 Pro, the company’s biggest EV yet.

Measuring almost five metres in length, the ID.7 nevertheless demonstrates a turning circle of just 10.9 metres. And with an average fuel consumption of between 16.3 – 14.1 kWh per 100 kilometres, Volkswagen claims the ID.7 Pro offers driving range of up to 621 kilometres (WLTP).

Delivering power of 210kW and 545Nm of torque, the ID.7 is the first vehicle to feature intelligent electronic air vents, which distribute air across the whole interior, thereby enabling the vehicle to cool down or heat up more quickly.

An optional large panoramic sunroof with “smart glass” can be transitioned between opaque and transparent by either touch or voice controls, and the ID.7’s new IDA voice assistant is supposedly able to understand natural language usage, making it a much easier vehicle to operate.

The ID.7 Pro is fitted with a number of features as standard including an augmented reality heads-up display and the Discover Pro Max navigation system. Also included are safety assist features including Travel Assist, Lane Assist, Emergency Assist, and Side Assist, Rear Traffic Alert and exit warning system, and an Area View including a rear view camera system.

“The new ID.7 will impress our customers all over the world thanks to its long ranges, quick charging, spacious interior and intuitive operation,” said Imelda Labbé, member of the board of management.

“The model therefore represents the new benchmark for all-electric premium models at Volkswagen.”

Additional tailored packages make the ID.7 easier to configure, with two levels of interior packages providing upgrades such as electric ergoActive comfort seats or a Harman Kardon sound system with twelve loudspeakers plus a centre speaker. Similarly two exterior packages offer LED matrix headlights or progressive steering and DCC adaptive chassis control.
